Not surprisingly, the changes in the Inburgering law are not completely straightforward. Here are the latest news:
- Are you subject to the integration requirement? You will have received a letter from DUO. Until the end of this year you still have the opportunity to take your inburgering exam on level A2. Next year, in 2022, that level will be raised to B1.
- You are not subject to the integration requirement? Then you are not obliged to take the inburgering exam. For instance: this would be the case for all knowledge migrants.
But: The Dutch government is planning to increase the language requirement for the application of the 'humanitarian non-temporary' and 'permanent stay' permits, as well as applications for naturalisation, from level A2 to level B1. However, the change in language requirement to level B1 will probably not occur in 2022. Therefore, in 2022, the language requirement will remain level A2.
So, starting from January 1st 2022, the situation will be as follows:
- If you are obliged to do the Inburgering exam, then the language level will be B1.
- If you are not required to do the Inburgering exam, but you want to apply for a permanent residency permit or for naturalisation in 2022 - then you will have to do the Inburgering exam, but on language level A2.
We will keep you posted!
