FAQs Kickstartschool

1. How much does a course cost?

Most general courses cost €360. For more detailed information, please check the page of each specific course. We also offer several Package Deals. Please note that our Package Deals cannot be combined with other discounts and promotions.
There may be discounts available for students and/or au pairs. Students who wish to request the special discount rate must provide their student card number in the ‘Comments or questions’ box of the registration form. Au pairs must provide the details of their host family. If this information is not provided on the registration form during registration then the full tuition fee will be charged.

2. Does the price include all learning materials?

No. Most courses include access to KickstartNet and a Kickstart folder of materials, but students will have to purchase the course book separately.

3. How long does a course take?

Most general courses last 24 hours. You can find detailed information about the duration of English Courses here and Dutch Courses here.

4. What is KickstartNet?

KickstartNet is our online learning platform. Enrolment in most of our general courses also includes membership to KickstartNet. This will provide you with a range of extra resources and exercises for grammar, reading, writing, listening, and speaking, so that you can develop your language skills throughout the week as well.

5. Do I get a certificate?

At the end of most courses you will receive a Certificate of Attendance, provided you have attended at least 80% of the programme.

6. On which skill is the emphasis placed?

In all our courses, the emphasis is placed on verbal communication. Listening exercises are also an integral part of all lessons. Reading is usually assigned as homework in order to build upon the content learnt during lessons, and many courses incorporate writing practice as well.
In Exam Preparation Courses, a larger amount of time is dedicated to reading and writing than in General or Conversation Courses. Needless to say, our Online Writing Courses focus on writing skills.

7. How many students are in each course?

Each course has between 4-10 students. For our Dutch for Au Pairs Course we take 4-12 students.

8. What is the minimum number of students that is needed for a course to be held?

We will run a course once 4 students are enrolled. If there are just 3 students enrolled, a course of fewer hours may be offered at the same price. The students will be consulted about this.

9. Can I reach the school by public transport?

Tram 9 stops close to our school. We are 4 stops away from Central Station. The stop is called 'Laan Copes van Cattenburch'. Buses 22, 24 and trams 1 and 17 stop close by. For more information, visit the Dutch public transport website www.9292.nl.

10. What is the target group for Kickstart courses?

We cater to all different types of people. This is reflected in the wide range of courses on offer at Kickstart. Generally, we cater to professionals, people in higher education, stay-at-home parents, students, au pairs, and children.

11. Can I visit the school to have an exploratory talk or an intake?

Yes, you can call us for an appointment, which is free of charge.

12. Is there a student/au pair reduction?

For many courses, yes. See question 1.

13. How does “Try before you buy” work?

After the first lesson, you can still decide to withdraw from the course. You will only need to pay the €15 administration fee and return the course materials in good condition. The course fees will be transferred back into your bank account within 1 week. If you think the course is too easy or difficult and you would like to enrol in a course at a different level, please notify your teacher or the administration after the first lesson. We will do what we can to accommodate your needs. If you withdraw from the course before the course begins, we will provide a full refund of the course fees within 1 week, minus the €15 administration fee.

What our students say about us

  • My experience with Kickstart has been highly beneficial in both developing language skills and improving my knowledge of the Dutch culture. Josien's support is always spot on and very intuitive in relation to personal circumstances. She spends a lot more than the official time allocated to really get to know her clients and her approach is customised accordingly. She was recommended to me by other Shell colleagues who expressed the same sentiment and I was fortunate enough to benefit from this during the time I spent with her.

Vennasa van de Ven, Migration Manager working at Shell

  • Entering the Kickstart school premises alone gives you a push of energy and the commitment this will help to create is hardly unmatched in any other language school. The methodology and the approach used in the lessons also helps smoothly unlock the secrets of everyday Dutch. Kickstart School has helped me get in touch with the 'undutchable' culture of the Netherlands and its people. The individual language training I could experience at Kickstart School has been one of the best educational experiences I could have in Europe.

    Alessandro d’Addario, European Law Enforcement

  • I really enjoyed my English lessons with the Kickstart School. The teacher was professional and really knew the subject. The way they teach is also great! The classes are presented in a clear and professional manner and the online exercises completed at home are very helpful. The teacher always provided useful feedback. It's a great experience to join a Kickstart course with such a friendly atmosphere of students and teachers.

    Beatriz Pedroche, Spain

  • Kickstart has been the ideal place for me to learn. The teachers are very helpful and friendly and have always gone the "extra mile" to help me learn in a positive way. Their teaching is practical with elements that can immediately be applied to everyday living situations. Included in the lessons are cultural aspects of living in the Netherlands that make learning Dutch dynamic and fun; you learn the language and about the place and the people! The teachers took an active interest in my progress and provided valuable customized sessions that maintained my strengths and developed my weaknesses; all in a patient, fun and friendly style.

Graeme Ting, dentist from New Zealand

  • My first contact with Kickstart School was after 1 month of living in The Netherlands, when I started to study Dutch. At the time I didn’t have any knowledge of the language, but with their courses organized by levels I developed important language skills and learned about the Dutch culture. They all do a great job at Kickstart because their motto it’s not just a motto – they are really pleased to teach you. You learn a language in a friendly atmosphere, make new friends from all over the world, and all in a cosy building right in the heart of The Hague.

Anca Boros, mathematics and physics teacher from Romania

  • During my time with Kickstart I have learned a lot and gained confidence. I was always challenged by the interesting assignments, but never too much. I have really enjoyed the classes!
